This Weekend Is For You If...

A Shipibo maestra weaving kene for Ayahuasca retreat as part of an integration activity at an ayahuasca retreat Costa Rica, hosted at Ananda Lodge and infused with Shipibo-inspired practices.

You've Worked With Ayahuasca Before

You're not a beginner. You've sat with the medicine and now you're ready to go deeper. This weekend is designed for those who want to advance their relationship with Ayahuasca and experience the profound healing power of the Shipibo tradition.

You Want Intimate, Personalized Care

You've been to larger retreat centers with 15-60 people and felt lost in the crowd. Here, with only 10 participants maximum, you'll receive genuine one-on-one time with Maestra Orfelinda and a 2:1 ratio of CARE team to guests.

You Crave True Immersion

You want more than just ceremony. You want to break bread with your Maestra, receive personal consultations, and be held in an intimate container where every detail of your healing matters. This is a fully immersive experience unlike any other.

You're Curious About Shipibo Healing

Perhaps you've worked with other facilitators or traditions, but never experienced the ancient wisdom and powerful icaros of a Shipibo Maestra. This is your opportunity to connect with one of the world's most respected healing lineages.

You Value Trauma-Informed Care

Safety matters to you. You want facilitators who understand how to hold space with compassion, attunement, and deep respect for your nervous system. Our team is trained in trauma-informed somatic facilitation.

You Want Time to Integrate

You understand that healing doesn't end when ceremony does. This weekend gives you spacious time for rest, reflection, one-on-one sessions, and the integration support needed to embody your experience before returning home.

Your 4-Day Journey

A focused journey with two powerful ceremonies over four consecutive days. This structure provides a beautiful balance of concentrated work and essential rest. Deep support before, during, and after.

What Makes This Experience Different

Choosing the right retreat center is an important step in the healing process that should not be overlooked.

Truly Intimate Container

Most retreat centers host 15-60 people per retreat. At Ananda Lodge, we limit our weekends to just 10 participants. This means Maestra Orfelinda can spend genuine quality time with each person—not just during ceremony, but throughout meals, consultations, and informal moments. You're not a number. You're seen, known, and cared for.

Immersive Time With Your Maestra

In most centers, you only see the medicine carrier during ceremony. Here, Maestra Orfelinda is with you throughout your entire stay—sharing meals, offering individual consultations, and building a relationship with you. This immersive approach allows for deeper healing and more personalized care.

2:1 Care Ratio

With 5 experienced team members supporting 10 guests, you receive unprecedented levels of attention. Our trauma-informed CARE specialists are available for one-on-one sessions, integration support, and compassionate presence whenever you need it.

Authentic Shipibo Lineage

Maestra Orfelinda (Bawan Kater) comes from Pullcalpa, Peru and has dedicated decades to plant medicine dietas. She carries the ancient wisdom of the Shipibo-Conibo people, known worldwide as some of the most powerful healers. Her icaros (sacred healing songs) are medicine themselves.

Trauma-Informed Somatic Care

Our entire team is trained in trauma-informed somatic facilitation. We understand how the nervous system processes plant medicine experiences and how to support you through activation, release, and integration with compassion and attunement.

Luxurious Ocean-View Setting

Perched on the mountainside with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and jungle, Ananda Lodge offers a level of comfort rarely found in plant medicine spaces. Private chef-prepared meals, ocean-view suites, and thoughtful design details create an environment of safety and beauty.

Kimberly Ocana

Shipibo Master Healer from Pullcalpa, Peru

Ananda Lodge is honored to welcome master healer Orfelinda from Pullcalpa, Peru. Her name in Shipibo is Bawan Kater. Orfelinda is a gentle and loving maestra who began drinking ayahuasca at age 20.

Orfelinda chose the path of a healer as that was the path of her grandfather. As a young child she watched him cure many sick people in their village and became very drawn to the plants and to the medicine. At the age of 10 she told her grandfather she wanted to be a master healer. He told her the path was not easy and that in order to follow this path she would need to do many years of plant medicine dietas.

Orfelinda has completed many year-long dietas to become a master healer. She is known for her deep medicine songs, her compassionate and loving spirit, and for her reverence to the plants and ayahuasca medicine. She is excited to join us at Ananda Lodge to share her medicine traditions and wisdom.

The Medicine & Shipibo Tradition

Ayahuasca (Oni)

At Ananda Lodge, we operate with the highest level of integrity when serving medicine. The ayahuasca brew for our retreats is prepared with sacred reverence and prayer, using only the vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and chacruna leaves (Psychotria viridis)—nothing else added.

The power of the icaros: Following many years of intense diets in the jungle, Shipibo healers are known as some of the most highly skilled energetic surgeons in the world. Through the singing of their icaros (sacred healing songs), the curandera channels their connection with the medicine and plant and animal spirits to heal traumatic imprints and energetic blockages. Through their singing, they guide the medicine to extract illness, repair the spirit, and harmonize the energy body.

The Shipibo-Conibo People

The Shipibo-Conibo are indigenous people who originate from the Peruvian Amazon. Formerly two groups (Shipibo and Conibo), they eventually merged to become one tribe—now known as some of the most powerful healers in the world. They are the third-largest indigenous group in the Peruvian Amazon, comprising 36,000 people across more than 150 communities.

The Shipibo Tribe is deeply rooted in their spiritual beliefs of healing with plants and their reverence for plant and animal spirits. They gain their healing powers and wisdom directly from the plants. Evident through their icaros (healing songs) and traditional textiles (kenes), the Shipibo believe in the concept of an all-encompassing reality of oneness. The kene plays a crucial role in bringing these concepts into tangible, physical form—often evident in the visuals experienced during ceremony.

Through their work with energy, they can cure a wide range of ailments, from physical to psycho-spiritual. The Shipibo follow a very specific progression of healing work that ensures the utmost safety, protection, and deepest access to removing trauma burdens and emotional imprints.
