San Pedro, or Huachuma, is often described as a gentle, expansive journey into the heart.
Its effects unfold over 10–16 hours, inviting you to see yourself—and the world—with deeper clarity and compassion. Many guests describe the experience as heart-opening, grounding, and illuminating.
Rather than overwhelming visions, San Pedro often heightens sensory perception and fosters an emotional presence that helps you reconnect with what truly matters.
Our trauma-informed C.A.R.E. practices ensure your journey is safe and supported. You’ll have dosage consultations, one-on-one guidance, and a compassionate container so you can surrender to the process with confidence.
San Pedro (Echinopsis pachanoi) is a cactus native to the high Andes of Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia. It thrives in extreme conditions—just as we do in life.
At Ananda Lodge, we honor this resilient medicine by preparing it with intention, reverence, and care. Our ceremonial brew is made in alignment with traditional methods, preserving the spirit of the plant and the integrity of your experience.
The medicine is consumed as a tea, typically early in the day, giving it time to gently open your heart and guide you through the rhythms of your inner and outer world.
Huachuma has been used ceremonially for over 3,000 years among the Chavín culture of Peru, Stone carvings, ancient temples, and oral traditions show that San Pedro was a bridge between worlds, helping humans connect with spirit, nature, and self.
We honor the Indigenous lineages that preserved these healing San Pedro ceremony traditions. San Pedro is a teacher rooted in reverence, intention, and connection.
Our ceremonies are held in alignment with that lineage, while integrating modern trauma-informed care to ensure your full safety and sovereignty.

Don’t just take our word for it; San Pedro can offer positive experiences, but it’s powerful and can be potentially challenging.
Please use it in a safe setting with experienced facilitators. It is not suitable for everyone, especially those with certain medical or psychological conditions.
Here are a few things to think about:
Pregnancy: Mescaline has been associated with fetal abnormalities and should be avoided during pregnancy.
Cardiovascular Issues: Huachuma should be avoided by individuals with heart conditions due to its effects on blood pressure and heart rate
Mental Health Conditions: Individuals with a history of severe mental health issues should consult with a healthcare professional before using Huachuma.
Emotional Intensity: The experience can be emotionally intense and may bring up challenging memories or feelings.
Medication Interactions: Huachuma should not be combined with blood pressure medications, heart rate medications, stimulants, MAOI medications, and lithium
SSRIs: Combining Huachuma with antidepressants like SSRIs can significantly diminish its effects. Taking Huachuma while on these medications poses minimal health risks but may be counterproductive to your healing process. If you are taking SSRIs or SNRIs, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare professional before considering Huachuma, as tapering off these medications is recommended and requires careful management to avoid withdrawal symptoms and ensure safety
